On Sunday, August 27, 2018 at the Sammamish Kennel Club show in Snohomish Sassy earned the last point that she needed for her AKC Championship going Winners Bitch and Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed.  Now we’ll work on completing her Canadian championship where she needs 4 more points.  Sassy is a sweet “girl” that likes things HER way.

Although her head hair isn’t looking the best, Sassy was awarded Best Opposite Sex in the Puppy Sweeps.  Sheri showed Sassy, since Sassy tends to show better for Sheri than she does for me.  Thank you judge Robyn Orvos for the nice, encouraging words about Sassy. After her win in the Sweepstakes, Sassy went on to be awarded Winners Bitch for a 4 point major (her first major win).  Thank you judge Joan Zielinski for this win.  Sassy now has a total of 6 points (needs 15 points total) toward her AKC championship.

IMG_0692Wow!!! Where did the time go??  Sassy is 12 weeks old today and it was a BIG day.  A trip to the vet for 12 week shots and micro-chip.  Sassy was very brave and enjoyed the treats she received.   Today was also the day for getting registered with the AKC–her formal name is Absolutely Affinity Take No Lip.  Fun little girl with a mind of her own, but isn’t that the way with most Bichons?

IMG_0688What do you give a puppy for her week 11 birthday??  Well Sassy got a bath, a little hair trim, and a pedicure–all of which she really didn’t think she needed or liked!  Dena came and trimmed Sassy up a bit and cut her nails (it’s much easier with 2 people to hang on to a not to cooperative wiggly pup).  Then Sassy got a trip to Sue’s house to see Sue, Bob, Willow and Flo Jo and a run in Sue’s dog area.  Sassy’s day kept improving with a run in the dog area when she got home and a nice bowl of dog food for dinner–followed by a nap.

IMG_0683Today (Saturday, March 26, 2016) the weather was so nice that all the dogs got to spend a lot of time outside.  Sassy has her own little Frisbee (more her size) and she had a great time today playing (I think she will sleep really well tonight).  IMG_0684Even though the Frisbee is only 7 inches wide, sometimes it is all Sassy can do to pick it up and bring it back without tripping over it.  Over the last 2 weeks Sassy has done lots of growing, gone to puppy pre-school classes, and gone to visit some friends at their homes.  Lots of new experiences and friends.

IMG_0679Another big week for Sassy–playing and running in the grass dog yard, meeting new people and dogs and having a full bath and getting blown dry with the hair dryer–she did well and I’m only slightly drenched!IMG_0678Now after the bath Sassy needs a hair cut–so hopefully this afternoon the clippers will come out and she’ll get a trim.  Thursday evening Sassy will get to go to Puppy Pre-School and hopefully get to play with other little puppies and socialize–something she is missing being a singleton puppy.

IMG_0663Week 7 brought a trip to see Dr. Stanfield and the first set of puppy shots.  Sassy had a physical exam and didn’t particularly like the shot–she also got the intranasal bordetella which she really didn’t like–but has to have when she goes to puppy preschool and has a chance to play with other small puppies–she likes to play with mother Poppy (and she is hard on Poppy’s coat), but she also needs to learn to play with other dogs–unfortunately she isn’t allowed in preschool until she is 9 weeks old, so we have another week and a half to go.IMG_0666Since the weather was sunny and warm today Sassy had a big run in the grass dog yard–and that’s all she did was RUN.  This little girl is full of energy and really loves to be outside–now if the weather would just cooperate she’ll be able to get outside more and more.  Sassy likes to be outside with the rest of the “pack” and the big dogs are really very good with her–with the exception of Buzz–he is just to young and to much puppy–not gentle enough with Sassy and just “bowls” her over.

IMG_0662Sassy has had a big week of new adventures–the last 2 days with the nice spring-like weather she had been introduced to the great outdoors–and LOVES to be outside.  Because the weather has been so mild the grass has grown and now needs to be mowed, or we will lose Sassy in the grass.  She looks kind of grumpy in this picture but she is a very happy girl and probably getting tired from all the running she has been doing.IMG_0658In addition to getting to go outside, Sassy has been able to be introduced to some of the bigger dogs that live with us.  Today Sassy was out in the grass yard with her mom, Poppy and her sire, Zeke.  Sprouty was out in the yard too.  I’ve been very impressed by how good the older dogs are with Sassy–Zeke is so tolerant and patient with her as she is hanging off his front leg or ear.

IMG_0650Today this Sassy girl is 5 weeks old and she had her first hair cut with the clippers.  Being a very brave girl I don’t think she even noticed that there was a lot of hair being removed from her body –then she got her nails trimmed (mostly while she was asleep). IMG_0645This afternoon she got to go into the dog room (with her mother along for support) and play with the “gym” that is going together to stimulate her mind.  While in the dog room she got to meet the other dogs in the house–she was inside of the x-pen used for Buzz and the other dogs came up to see her–not sure Buzz understands that this is a baby since he wants to play with her and I’m sure he would be to rough.  This week her she is getting around better and faster–and those little needle-like teeth are coming in–plus real, messy puppy food has been introduced.

IMG_0643Week 4 brought big changes to this little girl–she is up on her feet and moving around–alert and taking in all the new experiences–and sassy, letting us know what she is thinking with growls, little barks, every once in a while a whine and playing with her toys.  This next week will bring more new things–sloppy puppy food (not from mom) and a move to a location where there is more activity and interaction with the other dogs.  There just might be a little hair cut coming too–this pup has LOTS of hair.
